Student apathy appears again

Pierre Grzybowski

Are Virginia Tech students really so lazy that they can't or won't recycle their drink containers when they are finished with them? I would accuse them of ignorance, but I find it hard to believe that college students do not know the concept of recycling.

Every time I go into classrooms in McBryde, the only things in the trash are empty drink containers. Yet, at almost every corner on every floor there are co-mingled recycling bins that take aluminum and steel cans, all colors of glass bottles and No. 1 and No. 2 plastic bottles.

That's right, you no longer have to separate drink containers anywhere on campus. The only rule is to take off the top or cap beforehand, and throw it away. It would also be helpful if you finished the drink, but that may be pushing it for some of you. So how 'bout it? Can you make it a few more feet before the heavy can slips from your tired fingers and stick it in the recycling bin?
