Videos - (for loan to local folk)
-
The Animals Video - 136 minute tape covering animals
use and abuse extensively. Includes animal's treatment in city pounds,
on factory farms, on fur farms, in traps, in labs, during hunting, and
in government research. Interviews with hunters, researchers, farmers,
and animal rights activists. Very powerful. MUST BE SEEN.
-
Breaking Free #1 - video taken by militant protesters
standing up for animals. Includes protests, civil disobedience, and animal
liberations. Very motivational.
-
Breaking Free #2 - more of the same. That's a good
thing.
-
Animal Liberation the movie and Angels of Mercy -
split tape with the first half produced by the ALF about the ALF and the
second half is a short film about the ALF by someone else. Learn about
the ALF here, not from the animal abuse industries.
-
Their Future in Your Hands (Animal Aid/PETA) - short
film about animal abuse and what we can do to help.
-
Changing Minds, Changing Times (PETA) - short film
about PETA
-
Fur Farms and Trapping (PETA) - exposes the horrible
conditions on fur farms and shows animals being caught in fur traps.
-
Animals Used for Food (the Diner) (PETA) - 11 minutes
that will make you a vegetarian. Heart rending images of animals being
slaughtered as they thrash and cry out.
-
Britches (PETA)- uplifting video of an infant primate
rescued from a lab where he had been removed from his mother, had his eyes
sewn shut, and had some sort of sonar or radar device strapped to his head.
-
Breaking Barriers (PETA)- conditions witnessed in
this video launched the international Save the Chimps campaign. Primates
in isolation chambers have gone mad from lack of stimuli and contact.
-
Classroom Cut-Ups (PETA)- find out how animals
slated for dissection are treated. Cats are stolen from owners, beaten
with crow bars, and injected with formaldehyde while still alive. Undercover
footage from the nations two largest biological suppliers. The biology
department probably would not want you to see this.
-
Silver Spring Monkeys (PETA)- founder of PETA
goes undercover and documents horrible abuse at a primate facility. Animals
are starved, denied medical attention, and left to rot in their own feces.
-
Inside Biosearch (PETA)- footage of rabbits undergoing
the LD50 (forced poisoning until half are dead) and Draize (caustic substances
forced into eyes) tests.
-
Dog Lab (PETA)- a dog with inadequate anesthesia is
used in several surgery demonstrations. The students learn that it is okay
to ignore the dog's signs of pain (whining), to tear blood vessels, to
insert trachea tubes that are too large, and generally show no respect
for animal life. Tech has a dog lab, too.
-
Cheap Tricks (PETA)- performing animals are beaten,
attacked, and caged in intense heat and for long durations for the enjoyment
of humans at circuses, state fairs, etc.
-
Getting Away with Murder (PETA) - perfect example
of useless animal "research." A domesticated ferret is allowed to attack
domesticated mice, rats, and rabbits for no apparent reason. It appears
to be merely for the benefit of a sadistic student and his unethical professor.
-
No Gravy for the Cat (PETA) - animal "researcher"
does various bad things to cats.
-
Victims of Indulgence (PETA) - shows how pate de foie
gras is made. Ducks and Geese have metal tubes shoved down their throat
and are force-fed until their diseased liver is ready to eat. A number
of animals regularly die from, among other things, their throats exploding
while being force-fed.
-
Unnecessary Fuss (PETA)- 30 minute tape of
head injury experimentation on primates. Shows researchers smoking cigarettes
and pipes while both performing surgery on primates and while conducting
experiments. Also show researchers laughing at and mocking severely brain
damaged primates.
-
Pig Farm Investigation (PETA) - undercover
video of a pig farm. Graphic scenes of workers beating sows with a prodding
device, a wrench, a cement block, and what appears to be a crow bar. Also
scene of vaginal penetration of a sow by a prodding device. Scene of throat
slitting and skinning of a sow with a pocket knife while she is still conscious.
-
Baker's Farm Slaughterhouse, Swansea, Mass. - one
hour and thirty minutes of a small slaughterhouse killing pigs, goats,
sheep, and cows. Watching this is like visiting a slaughterhouse and standing
on the killing floor for 90 minutes. Summer 1998.
-
A Planet for the Taking - 52 minute tape exploring
our domestication of animals and ourselves.
-
The Shameful Scheme - shows animals caught in traps
that the fur industry would have you think are more humane. 5 minutes.
-
Health with Humanity - alternatives to animals in
teaching medical students.
-
Ahimsa: Non-violence - fascinating and inspiring look
at Jainism, a religion that practices non-violence towards all life. 58
minutes.
-
Circus Elephants - a horrible glimpse into what happens
when performing elephants decide they have had enough. Shows trainers and
spectators being trampled and crushed and a sickening scene of an escaping
elephant being slowly shot to death by dozens of bullets from small caliber
firearms. 5 minutes.
-
Broiler Chickens (PETA) - shows the condition of the
chickens that are raised on factory farms for their flesh. Follows them
from birth to killing. 11 minutes.
-
Meet your Meat (PETA) - a more horrible and graphic
version of the Diner. Broken up into sections showing the atrocities involved
with each of the main types of flesh. 12 minutes.
Pamphlets - (for keeps)
-
something on most animal rights issues.
-
We always carry a number of Why Vegans if you would like
some to distribute
Signs - (for loan to local folk)
-

Animal Rights, Animal Welfare. (1991) Call number:
HV 4704 A55
2 hour video of Iowa's(?) agriculture extension service.
Pretty one-sided, with the entire panel and host being pro-animal agriculture.
Very educational though, especially in learning about pro-animal agriculture's
point of view. Also provides a very sketchy overview of many groups along
the animal use to animal liberation spectrum from hunting groups to the
Humane Society to the ALF.
-
Cattleman Care about Animal Welfare. (1991) Call Number:
SF 207 C37
15 minute tape produced by cattle interests. Essentially
a propaganda piece on why the cattle industry is great for animals and
humans. Lots of scenes of cows in idyllic pastures. No scenes of slaughtering.
