Dissection: NRV-CARE has been successful in changing the Virginia Tech biology department's policy on dissection. We will continue to work with the department to insure a satisfactory finalization and implementation of the new policy.
Veganism/Vegetarianism: NRV-CARE currently distributes Why Vegan, a pamphlet which introduces people to the idea of veganism and the impacts of animal agriculture on people, animals, and the environment. We have them available at all of our events in addition to leaving them in certain area stores.
Virginia Tech's Dining Halls: NRV-CARE is currently working with Dietrick Dining Hall to insure properly labeled vegan food at every meal. Click to see pictures of some very exciting menu items: hand-made wraps, meatless-lovers pizza, and more.
Fur: Henri Kessler Furs and Outerwear profits from the suffering and deaths of fur bearing animals. NRV-CARE and other area groups protest the store regularly. HK's is located at 117 Campbell Ave., Roanoke VA.
Puppy Mills/Pet Stores: Petland, Inc. profits from the sale of puppy mill dogs and cats while dogs and cats in pounds are being killed for lack of room and resources.
Leather: Leatherhous profits from the sale of skin that could have been ripped from a still-conscious cow. They also sell a considerable amount of fur and fur trim. Leatherhous is located at 122 Campbell Avenue S.E., Roanoke VA.
"The animals of the world
exist for their own reasons. They were not made for humans any more than black
people were made for white, or women created for men."
