The one-word description of this CD is: "Smooth."
If there's any word in the English language that k. d. lang does not know, it must be "strained." Her voice covers an amazing vocal range, jumping from low to high at the drop of a hat, and always sounding perfectly relaxed. She makes it all seem effortless, until you try to sing along. She is a woman truly blessed with golden vocal cords.
All You Can Eat is an album of slow grooves and silky lyrics. Of the nine tracks on the CD, there are a handful of standouts. Among them are "you're ok," which demonstrates k. d. lang's vocal acrobatics to their fullest, and "acquiesce this," the first song I can remember that actually uses the word "acquiesce" in the chorus.
The problem with an album of slow grooves is that it eventually grows tiresome. While k. d. lang's voice is entertaining, and her music is sleek and stylish, it is not something that you listen to all the way through. You might just repackage this as k. d. lang's Songs for Lovers.
